ABOUT LÉJOYEE

A pet store
built by pet people.

LéJoyee is an independent pet business based in Sydney. We choose, test and sell products for the pets we actually live with — and we pay rather more attention to the details than we probably need to.

WHY WE STARTED

It started with
buying things for our own pets.

Shopping for pets is supposed to be enjoyable. Somehow, it can become a lot of comparing, guessing and returning things that looked better online.

There was litter that tracked everywhere. Treats with ingredient lists longer than the packaging itself. Carriers that looked great in photos but felt completely different once they arrived.

And then there was the cupboard full of things we'd bought once and never bought again.

We started paying closer attention to why some products became part of everyday life while others disappeared into a cupboard.

That eventually became the idea behind LéJoyee: don't just add another product to the internet. Take the time to understand what you're selling first.

WHAT WE ACTUALLY DO

We're not trying
to sell everything.

LéJoyee is a curated pet store, but “curated” doesn't mean choosing products because they look good together.

It means asking whether something deserves a place in the range in the first place.

01

We read the details.

Ingredients, materials, specifications, product claims and the information behind them all matter. We want to understand what a product actually is before deciding how to present it.

02

We use products in real life.

Where practical, we test products in our own homes. That can mean timing how quickly a litter clumps, checking how a treat smells and handles, or finding out whether a product is actually convenient to use.

03

We compare before we commit.

A product being good doesn't automatically make it right for the range. We look at performance, size, materials, price and what else is already available before adding another option.

04

We listen after the sale.

What happens after a product reaches someone's home matters just as much. Customer questions, feedback, repeat purchases and products that don't get reordered all tell us something.

WHERE WE STARTED

Cat litter made us
pay attention.

Cat litter is one of the simplest examples of why we started doing things differently.

On paper, many litters can sound almost identical: clumping, odour control, low dust, natural materials. In an actual home, the differences can become much more obvious.

How quickly does it clump? Does the clump hold together? How much gets carried around the house? What does it feel like to clean? Does the product still make sense at its actual price?

Those are the kinds of details we care about because they're the details people actually live with.

CLUMPING How it behaves in the tray.
DUST What happens during pouring and cleaning.
TRACKING What follows you outside the litter box.
VALUE What you're actually getting for the price.
WHAT WE SELL

The range keeps
growing with us.

We started with a strong focus on cats and have gradually expanded into food, treats, care, enrichment, walking and everyday products for both cats and dogs.

BEHIND THE STORE

Still a small
business.

LéJoyee is run by a small team in Sydney.

That means the people choosing the products are also close to the everyday work behind the store — answering customer questions, checking products, packing orders, dealing with couriers and figuring out what needs improving next.

It also means we're not separated from the products by several layers of people and spreadsheets.

When you email us, a real person reads it. When you ask about a product, we'll tell you what we know — and if we don't know, we'd rather say that than make something up.

A FEW THINGS WE BELIEVE

Not every product
needs to be here.

01

More isn't always better.

A bigger catalogue can mean more choice, but it can also make choosing harder.

02

Pretty packaging isn't enough.

A product still has to make sense once it leaves the screen and enters your home.

03

One product won't suit every pet.

Cats, dogs and their people have different preferences. We don't expect otherwise.

04

We don't need to call everything “the best”.

We'd rather explain what a product does, what it costs and who it might suit.

Nayuki, LéJoyee's Cat Officer
CAT OFFICER

Meet Nayuki.

Head of Quality Control Self-appointed.

Every small business needs someone keeping an eye on standards. At LéJoyee, apparently that job belongs to Nayuki.

Her testing process is simple: sit on it, sniff it, sleep on it, ignore it completely, or decide that the box it arrived in is more interesting than the product.

So far, she has rejected seven litters, five beds because they were apparently too firm, and ten scratching posts she still hasn't forgiven us for.

My human does the spreadsheets and emails. I handle the important decisions.
